Second phase of creative workshop on novel writing begins
Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation (MBRF), a leading establishment that seeks to build the potential of the youth and their positive outlook to develop knowledge-led societies, today announced the start of the second phase of its Dubai International Program for Writing (DIPW) with a training workshop on novel writing by Lebanese novelist Najawa Barakat.
The first phase of the workshop concluded its activities in September of last year, during which the trainer discussed with the participants their projects in terms of content, key characters, writing style and the initial conception of the novel. After the completion of the first phase, participants worked on one-third of their novels while Najwa Barakat continued the supervision process through internet communications channels, making observations and giving the necessary instructions.
Speaking on the occasion, His Excellency Jamal Bin Huwaireb, Managing Director of MBRF, said: With the start of the second phase of creative workshop on novel writing, the Dubai International Program for Writing has strengthened its position as a leading creative initiative that reflects MBRF strategy to empower young writers from the UAE and across the Arab world. The ongoing workshop will help strengthen the dissemination of culture and knowledge in Arab societies.
Commenting on the second phase, Najawa Barakat said: The second phase of creative workshop on novel writing will re-evaluate the one-third of the work that has been completed, and take up revisions if required. Participants will also be asked to start work on the two-third of their novels to ensure appropriate evaluation of characters, writing quality and language, as well as to ensure the correct development of the novels plots.
Under the Dubai International Program for Writing, MBRF will form partnerships with leading literary figures and local experts to train candidates. Trainers will be allocated in various fields of writing, including literature, science and research.
The DIPW represents a key part of the activities and initiatives launched by the MBRF to enhance the capability of the intellectual and literary community. The program also supports national publishing houses which contribute to the enrichment of the cultural movement and intellectual activities in the UAE and the Arab world.
