The Science Film Festival In Jordan

The Goethe-Institut in Jordan, in cooperation with The Childrens Museum Jordan, the Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation, the Jordanian Hashemite Fund For Human Development (JOHUD) and with the support of Daimler Mercedes is organizing the Science Film Festival 2014 in Amman and in several Jordanian cities like Ajloun and Irbid from October 15 - 30, 2014.

The Science Film Festival will start in Amman at the Childrens Museum Jordan and at the Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation on October 15, 2014 and at the Princess Basma Community Development Center (JOHUD) in Ajloun on October 16, 2014. During the opening ceremony Joachim Hecker (Germany) - as a special guest of the Science Film Festival 2014 in Jordan - will present a thrilling science show with live experiments for children and families. The 17 films, chosen by the Jordanian Science Film Festival selection jury, will be screened by the 3 partner organizations for school classes and families. After all screenings the visitors can engage in interactive experiments and handy-on demonstrations. In addition to the screenings and the follow-up activities at the Childrens Museum, the Knowledge Path Library / Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation in Amman as well as in several community development centers of JOHUD across the country, the Science Film Festival will be touring in rural regions of Jordan with the Mobile Museum of the Childrens Museum and the Mobile Science Lab (EUREKA) of JOHUD.

We hope that this Festival will encourage the young generation to discover Future Sciences with more excitement and enthusiasm. The Science Film Festival in Jordan is part of the German-Arabic transformation partnership and its activities are substantially funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.

In 2013 the Science Film Festival reached an audience of 3.500 visitors in Jordan. With the growing number of organizing partners in the second edition of the Science Film Festival in Jordan we expect to celebrate science communication with a greater number of audience, not only in Amman, but also in other parts of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan as well.

The Science Film Festival was initiated by the Goethe-Institut in 2005. The Science Film Festival was successfully presented for over 9 years in the Southeast of Asia and since 2013 also in the Middle East countries Jordan, Palestine and the United Arab Emirates. In 2014 it will also be presented in Egypt and Sudan for the first time. The Science Film Festival with its exciting scientific films and well-designed hands on experiments is a perfect opportunity for the young audience to explore science and technology. In 2014 the theme of the Science Film Festival is Future Technologies.
