Samsung Electronics Receives ISO 27001 Certification for SmartThings Platform
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced that its global connected living platform, SmartThings, has achieved ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification for its information security management systems (ISMSs).
The ISO 27001 certification, established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), is the premier global standard for ISMSs. It provides companies with a framework to systematically manage information security risks and protect information assets. Samsung received this certification from the British Standards Institution (BSI), a highly respected standardization and certification body. Achieving this certification required meeting 123 detailed criteria, including policies for information security, access control, and incident response.
This certification demonstrates that Samsung’s SmartThings Cloud adheres to international standards for information protection, enhancing trust and strengthening business competitiveness with both users and partners.
“The importance of cloud technology and information protection is increasing in a rapidly changing business environment,” said Harold Pradal, President of Assurance Services at BSI. “We recognized that the operation capability and security level of Samsung SmartThings are excellent.”
Seungbum Choi, Executive Vice President and Head of Device Platform Center at Samsung Electronics, added, “SmartThings receiving the ISO 27001 certification is the result of our sustained focus on the protection of information in a hyper-connected world with exponentially increasing intelligence. But this is just another step in our drive to fortify the platform’s security. We will continue to find new ways to ensure that SmartThings’ personalized services are provided even more safely.”
