Rob’s early academic journey began in Dubai at Jumeirah English Speaking School (JESS) and Dubai College, before continuing his higher education at Bangor University. His career in retail started at Falaknaz Habitat, where he rapidly progressed from Store Manager to General Manager within a year, demonstrating strong leadership and operational expertise. He later held key roles at brands such as BoConcept, MFI, and O2, building extensive experience in operations, customer experience, and business expansion.

Under his leadership, GMG Home has transformed into a multi-brand lifestyle powerhouse. One of his most notable achievements includes the evolution of Suncoast, which grew from a single warehouse showroom into one of the UAE’s leading outdoor furniture destinations, with flagship stores located in Al Barsha, Dubai Hills Mall, and Reem Mall in Abu Dhabi. The brand has become synonymous with quality, design, and experiential retail, achieving strong year-on-year growth.

Expanding into indoor living, Rob introduced Modora, a design-led interiors brand that complements Suncoast’s outdoor expertise. The brand focuses on contemporary, functional, and emotionally engaging home collections, redefining indoor spaces through craftsmanship, storytelling, and personalised design. Together, Suncoast and Modora reflect a holistic lifestyle ecosystem, seamlessly connecting indoor and outdoor living.

Looking ahead, Rob Canning aims to position GMG Home as a leading home lifestyle brand across the GCC, with plans to expand into Saudi Arabia and other international markets. His strategy is driven by insights into emerging design trends, the UAE’s dynamic real estate landscape, and opportunities to elevate specialised furniture segments to global standards.

His expertise spans strategic planning, financial management, crisis response, change management, and stakeholder engagement, reinforcing his reputation as a transformational leader in the retail industry.
