RIPE NCC and BTK: building capacity in Ankara
The Rseaux IP Europens Network Coordination Centre (RIPE NCC), in a joint effort with Turkish regulator Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK), effectively conveyed a workshop aimed at increasing awareness of Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6), as well as measurements and tools that the RIPE NCC accommodates for network operators. The workshop, which was held at the BTK Headquarters in Ankara recently, and was attended by local Internet service providers (ISPs), telecom operators, BTK and other related associations.
During the three-day event, RIPE NCC specialists led three courses planned for local, regional and international participants. Programs incorporated a Basic IPv6 Training Course, which concentrated on arranging IPv6 deployment; IPv6 Security Training Course, which focused on furnishing participants with a key outline of convenient timely IPv6 security topics and a Measurements and Tools Training Course, which filled as an introduction to RIPEstat and RIPE Atlas.
Abdullah Cemil Akam, Senior Associate at BTK, said, BTK stays unfaltering in its progressing endeavors to support the ongoing efforts to expand Internet connectivity. We are satisfied at the success of this collaborative event with RIPE NCC that we hosted in our training center. The workshop highlighted the importance of capacity building, which is viewed as an essential component for technological advancements. BTK proceeds in its endeavors to promote IPv6 deployment, as the shift to this new Internet protocol can translate to further Internet development and economic growth for the country.
The workshop demonstrated to be both timely and strategic, as it was held against a backdrop of rising IPv6 deployment on networks around the world. Truth to be told, a recent report from Google shows that more than 30 per cent of Internet users globally now access its services via IPv6 connectivity.
Chafic Chaya, Regional Communications Manager at the RIPE NCC, was also enthusiastic. We applaud BTK's efforts to highlight the importance of making the shift to IPv6, through trainings and workshops that support understanding and formulate key actions that can drive faster deployment of IPv6 in Turkey. IPv6 plays an important role in the further development of the Internet sector and has a growing influence in many economic and social domains globally. We look forward to continuing our work with BTK to support engagement across all stakeholders in capacity building, especially now as Turkey proceeds on the way of digital transformation,
RIPE NCC continues to play an active role in the move to promote sustainable development and economic growth, particularly through its integrated services and initiatives that help network operators to adapt with rapid transformation and meet future needs of the future through training workshops, conferences and meetings.
