Participants come forward to take part in training programme for polling station volunteers
A training programme for volunteers at polling stations for the Federal National Council Elections 2015, launched by the National Election Committee in collaboration with Higher Colleges of Technology, has started to attract participation from candidates around the country. The programme is the first of its kind that offers a special certificate to the participants in the electoral process.
The intensive courses in the training programme are designed to enrich the cultural knowledge of the volunteers as part of the empowerment programme of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. They will also help raise awareness about the legal frameworks of the electoral process, and enable the volunteers to acquire adequate skills to manage the polling stations in the optimal manner.
Confirming that the door is still open for those wishing to enrol in this programme, the NEC has urged interested candidates to apply for the programme through the NEC website sis.cert.ae/nec or by calling on phone number 024048681. The applications will be subject to review by the Committee, and applicants will be notified in the event of approval of their application.
Commenting on the popularity of the training programme, His Excellency Tariq Hilal Lootah, Undersecretary of the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs and Chairman of the Election Management Committee, pointed out that the keen interest shown by volunteers was a sign of their awareness about the importance of the electoral process and the role of the Federal National Council in the community.
HE Lootah described the response as very positive going by the number of volunteers who have applied for the programme as well as the number of enquiries about the programme received at the NEC call centre. The response shows a genuine community support for the success of this national mission and its implementation based on the highest professional standards, HE Lootah added.
The NEC is seeking to attract more volunteers from different regions across the country to make it easier for citizens to cast their votes at the nearest centre in their region. The Committee is also keen to offer an opportunity to the maximum number of volunteers to contribute to the success of the national efforts to implement the electoral process in 2015.
