Oman named Guest of Honour at 45th Sharjah International Book Fair
The Sultanate of Oman has been named Guest of Honour at the 45th edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF), organisers announced on Wednesday.
The announcement was made by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), who described the selection as recognition of Oman’s long-standing contribution to Arab literature and intellectual life.
Celebrating shared cultural heritage
Sheikha Bodour said the decision reflects Oman’s influential role in shaping Arab cultural discourse through its writers, thinkers and artists, while also honouring the deep-rooted ties between the UAE and Oman.
“Oman has played an important role in shaping Arab cultural life through its writers, thinkers and artists,” she said. “Its participation will give visitors the opportunity to explore Omani literature and arts, and to meet voices that have influenced the region’s reading culture over generations.”
She added that the recognition celebrates the close relationship between the two nations, grounded in shared geography, language and traditions.
Dedicated Omani pavilion
As Guest of Honour, Oman will host a dedicated national pavilion at SIBF, showcasing its literary achievements, poetry, publishing sector, and cultural milestones. The pavilion is expected to feature prominent Omani authors and cultural figures, offering visitors insights into the country’s evolving literary landscape.
The participation underscores SIBF’s role as a leading platform for regional and international cultural exchange, reinforcing Sharjah’s status as a hub for publishing and intellectual dialogue.
The 45th edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair is anticipated to draw publishers, writers and readers from across the Arab world and beyond, continuing its legacy as one of the region’s most significant literary events.
