MBRF’s Knowledge Lounge Marks 10 Years of Impact with More Than 1,800 Knowledge Sessions

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF) has marked a major milestone as its Knowledge Lounge initiative celebrates 10 years of promoting reading, knowledge exchange, and cultural engagement across the Arab world.

Since its launch, the initiative has organised more than 1,800 sessions, featuring over 1,500 book discussions and participation from more than 350 writers, thinkers, and translators, engaging thousands of readers and knowledge enthusiasts.

Originally established as a local reading group under the name “Ladies Lounge,” the initiative has evolved into a regional knowledge platform operating through 15 specialised groups across the UAE, Egypt, Jordan, Oman, Australia, and Canada. In 2020, the initiative adopted the name Knowledge Lounge to reflect its broader and more inclusive mission.

Over the years, Knowledge Lounge has expanded beyond traditional book discussions to become a platform for professional development and creative growth, supporting writers, publishers, editors, and knowledge content creators through practical experience in organising discussions and cultural events.

Its sessions cover a wide range of subjects including literature, philosophy, history, science, arts, personal development, and business management, reinforcing a culture of continuous learning and intellectual diversity.

Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation CEO Jamal bin Huwaireb said the initiative serves as a successful example of transforming reading from an individual habit into an interactive social practice that strengthens awareness, encourages dialogue, and develops skills.

He added that building strong knowledge societies begins with reading and meaningful dialogue, emphasising the foundation’s continued support for initiatives that create sustainable social impact and contribute to long-term prosperity.

The initiative’s continued growth has been supported by a volunteer-driven model rooted in social responsibility. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Knowledge Lounge successfully transitioned to virtual sessions, enabling readers and authors to connect across borders while maintaining engagement.

Knowledge Lounge has also extended its outreach through partnerships with schools, senior care centres, and orphanages, broadening access to cultural and educational activities.

In addition, the initiative has played an important role in supporting Emirati literature, highlighting local authors and publications and strengthening the presence of Emirati literary works across the wider Arab reading community.
