LG, SK Enmove and GRC Partner to Pioneer Liquid Immersion Cooling for Next-Generation AI Data Centers
LG Electronics (LG) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with SK Enmove (SKEN) and Green Revolution Cooling (GRC) to jointly develop and commercialize next-generation liquid immersion cooling solutions tailored for artificial intelligence data centers (AIDCs).
The three industry leaders will collaborate on proof of concept (PoC) demonstrations, joint marketing initiatives, and integrated solution development—combining their expertise in advanced cooling systems, thermal management, and immersion technology to accelerate sustainable innovation in the global data center market.
Leveraging Combined Expertise
Under the agreement:
-
LG will spearhead data center system integration, providing key hardware such as coolant distribution units (CDUs), facility water units (FWUs) and chillers.
-
SK Enmove, Korea’s pioneer in immersion cooling fluids, will supply next-generation thermal fluids optimized for high-performance computing environments.
-
GRC, a Texas-based leader in immersion cooling, will contribute its proprietary tank design and deployment expertise, building on over a decade of commercial experience.
This collaboration unites LG’s precision cooling technology, SKEN’s advanced materials science, and GRC’s deep experience in immersion system engineering to deliver robust, scalable, and energy-efficient AI data center solutions.
Revolutionizing Data Center Efficiency
The partnership comes amid an explosion in global AI computing demand, which has significantly increased the heat output and power requirements of large-scale data centers.
Liquid immersion cooling, which submerges entire servers in non-conductive fluid, offers a highly efficient alternative to traditional air or water cooling. By directly transferring heat from components and circulating it via external chillers, this approach can:
-
Dramatically reduce overall energy consumption
-
Improve power usage effectiveness (PUE)
-
Enable stable operation of high-density GPU servers
-
Enhance heat transfer and safety performance
The technology aligns with growing sustainability mandates, helping operators reduce their environmental footprint while supporting ever-increasing AI workloads.
Driving Innovation and Sustainability
As part of the collaboration, LG will expand its liquid cooling PoC facility in Pyeongtaek, incorporating immersion cooling technologies to validate performance under real-world data center conditions.
The company also plans to develop an integrated Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) platform that enables real-time monitoring and control of both facility infrastructure and IT systems—further strengthening its “smart, sustainable data center” portfolio.
Executive Perspectives
“We expect that these three companies, each with their own immersion cooling technology and market experience, will effectively combine their strengths to enhance competitiveness in the global data center cooling market,” said Nam Jae-in, Head of Green Growth at SK Enmove.
“This collaborative partnership between LG and SK will deliver innovative and measurable value to AI data center customers,” added Peter Pollin, CEO of GRC. “Together, we’ll help clients adopt high-quality cooling solutions for stable and sustainable operations.”
“Through this strategic partnership with SKEN and GRC, LG aims to accelerate the adoption of liquid immersion cooling and deliver highly efficient and reliable solutions for the AI-driven future,” said James Lee, President of the LG ES Company. “We are committed to leading innovation in the data center market with integrated solutions that meet both performance and environmental goals.”
Building on Global Momentum
This MOU reinforces LG’s broader data center strategy, following its “One LG Solution” deployment—delivered in collaboration with LG Energy Solution and LG CNS—for hyperscale data centers in Indonesia. LG also recently showcased its cutting-edge AI data center cooling technologies at Data Center World Asia (DCWA) in Singapore.
By integrating liquid immersion cooling into its expanding data center solutions portfolio, LG continues to position itself as a key enabler of sustainable, high-performance infrastructure for the AI era.
