Last Crescent of Ramadan 2026 Sighted in UAE Skies

The final crescent marking the end of Ramadan has been sighted in the skies over the United Arab Emirates, according to astronomers.

The crescent for Ramadan 1447 AH was photographed earlier in the day from Abu Dhabi by the Khatm Astronomical Observatory, which operates under the International Astronomy Center.

The image was captured at approximately 1pm UAE time on Wednesday, March 18. At the time of observation, the moon was positioned at an angular distance of 9.2 degrees from the sun, with its age recorded at minus 15 hours and 23 minutes, indicating it was still in the early phase of its cycle.

This astronomical observation comes ahead of the official moon-sighting process scheduled for the evening, when the UAE’s moon-sighting committee will observe the Shawwal crescent to determine the first day of Eid Al Fitr.

The sighting of the Shawwal crescent will officially mark the conclusion of Ramadan and the beginning of Eid celebrations across the country.
