Dubai Culture Launches “Theatre and People” Programme to Strengthen Cultural Dialogue
The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority has launched a new initiative titled “Theatre and People”, in collaboration with Dubai National Theatre, aimed at enhancing cultural dialogue and highlighting the role of performing arts in society.
The programme features a series of virtual interactive seminars, designed to explore key topics shaping the performing arts sector while showcasing creative experiences that reflect the UAE’s evolving cultural landscape.
First Session Explores Theatre and Social Media
The series began with an online session hosted on Zoom by media personality Abdullah Al-Shehhi, titled “Theatre and Social Media.” The discussion featured Emirati artist Ahmed Abdul Razzaq and focused on the impact of digital transformation on the arts.
Participants examined whether digital fame or live performance plays a greater role in shaping an artist’s success, concluding that a balance between online presence, talent, and stage experience is essential. The session also addressed how social media platforms are reshaping audience engagement, artistic exposure, and public perception.
Bridging Artists and Audiences
According to Fatima Al Jallaf, Acting Director of Performing Arts at Dubai Culture, the initiative is rooted in a vision to use culture as a tool for social development while reinforcing national and cultural values.
She noted that the programme aims to:
- Highlight key challenges and opportunities in the creative sector
- Share inspiring artistic journeys
- Create a direct, interactive platform connecting artists with audiences
The sessions also allow participants to engage in real-time discussions, strengthening the relationship between creators and the public.
Supporting Cultural Growth Through Partnership
Abdullah Saleh Al Rumaithi, Vice President of Dubai National Theatre, emphasised that the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to supporting the UAE’s creative ecosystem.
He highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships in promoting theatre and the arts, noting that such initiatives help build awareness, preserve cultural identity, and expand the reach of creative expression across society.
Advancing the UAE’s Cultural Vision
The “Theatre and People” programme aligns with Dubai’s broader strategy to nurture culturally aware generations, capable of preserving heritage while embracing modern artistic developments.
By combining digital platforms with traditional performing arts, the initiative underscores Dubai’s ambition to create a dynamic, inclusive, and future-ready cultural environment.
