Kuwait Hospital in Sharjah Achieves Milestones in Complex Endoscopic Surgeries
Kuwait Hospital in Sharjah, under the Emirates Health Services (EHS) umbrella, has announced significant achievements in the treatment of complex gastrointestinal and bronchial conditions using advanced endoscopic surgery techniques. Marking a first for EHS facilities, the hospital successfully implemented the modern "Spyglass" technology, raising the standard of healthcare services to align with top international benchmarks.
Dr. Afra Salim, Director of Kuwait Hospital, underscored the institution's dedication to integrating cutting-edge technologies to deliver exceptional healthcare services. She praised the continuous support from EHS in adopting the latest medical innovations and emphasized the ongoing training of medical and technical teams to handle diverse medical cases. These efforts, she noted, are crucial to advancing the quality of services provided across EHS facilities, in line with the UAE’s "We the UAE 2031" vision and Centennial 2071 goals.
Dr. Thomas Cherukara, Consultant Gastroenterologist and Head of the Endoscopy Unit at Kuwait Hospital, reiterated the hospital’s commitment to aligning with EHS’s strategic objectives. He highlighted the unit's recent advancements, attributing success to the combination of state-of-the-art technology and the expertise of the medical team. These factors, he asserted, are vital in delivering high-quality, effective healthcare services.
Among the notable cases treated, the hospital performed an innovative procedure on a 70-year-old patient with a large bile duct stone, using endoscopy to avoid major surgery and reduce recovery time. Additionally, a patient in her 60s, suffering from recurring gastric variceal bleeding, was treated successfully using endoscopic ultrasound technology. In the first half of this year alone, Kuwait Hospital conducted 782 endoscopic procedures, including 392 for outpatients and referrals, solidifying its leadership in the field.
EHS has equipped Kuwait Hospital's Endoscopy Unit with the latest technology for treating gastrointestinal and bronchial diseases, including pioneering tumor removal procedures via colonoscopy and gastroscopy. This commitment to advanced healthcare technology reflects EHS’s strategy to enhance quality and safety standards in accordance with the highest global norms.
