International Evaluation Process Begins for Hamdan–UNESCO Prize for Teacher Development

The international evaluation process for the Hamdan–UNESCO Prize for Teacher Development has officially commenced, following a preliminary meeting of its international jury on March 19.

The session was held in the presence of Dr. Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Executive Director of the Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Medical and Educational Sciences, and marked the formal start of this year’s assessment cycle.

During the meeting, jury members reviewed the procedures governing the individual evaluation process, with the first phase set to be conducted remotely. A second phase of in-person evaluations will take place at the headquarters of UNESCO in May.

Strong Global Participation and Growth

Dr. Al Suwaidi revealed that this year’s prize recorded a 66% increase in submissions, with a total of 169 applications from 62 countries. He noted that the significant growth reflects the prize’s expanding global influence in enhancing teacher performance and promoting educational excellence.

He also highlighted the importance of the long-standing collaboration with UNESCO, emphasizing its role in strengthening the initiative’s international reach and impact.

Recognition of Excellence in Education

The Hamdan–UNESCO Prize aims to support educators and elevate teaching standards worldwide by recognizing innovative practices and impactful contributions to the field of education.

According to the foundation, the final results are scheduled for approval on October 5 by UNESCO’s Director-General in Paris, with winners to be announced during the official award ceremony at a later date.

The initiative continues to serve as a global platform for advancing teaching quality, reinforcing the importance of education as a cornerstone for sustainable development.
