InnovAIte 2025: UAE’s Largest Student AI Hackathon Concludes, Showcasing Future AI Leaders
The second edition of InnovAIte, the UAE’s largest student-led National AI Hackathon, has successfully concluded, recognizing Team ‘Machine Mindset’ from GEMS Wellington Academy – Silicon Oasis as the winner. The competition, organized by Aryav Odhrani, Nirvaan Thawani, Dasuni Gunasekara, and Alizeh Ali, was held in collaboration with the National Program for Coders and supported by leading partners such as Emirates NBD, EDGE Group, Hale Education Group, and the University of Birmingham, Dubai.
This year’s theme, ‘Mental Health and Wellbeing,’ aligned with the UAE’s strategic vision to leverage artificial intelligence for societal development. The three-day event concluded with a grand finale on March 16, 2025, at the University of Birmingham, Dubai, drawing students, educators, parents, and industry leaders.
Winning Projects and Notable Teams
The winning team, ‘Machine Mindset,’ impressed judges with their AI-powered emotion detection system, which uses DeepFace technology and facial recognition to analyze students’ emotions in real time.

The event saw participation from 289 young AI enthusiasts across 34 nationalities and 44 schools, who worked diligently to develop innovative AI-driven solutions tackling critical challenges in mental health and financial well-being.

Dr. Abdulrahman Al Mahmoud, Director at the Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications Office, praised the initiative, stating:

Judging and Event Highlights
A panel of 25 esteemed judges, including experts from Emirates NBD, the University of Birmingham, EDGE Group, and the Hale Education Group, evaluated the projects based on innovation, feasibility, impact, and presentation. The finale featured student presentations, workshops, and speaking sessions, offering participants a platform to demonstrate their AI expertise.
With the UAE continuing to prioritize AI innovation and digital transformation, InnovAIte 2025 reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to nurturing future AI leaders and fostering a culture of technological excellence.
