Huawei Champions 10Gb Fiber Networks at Future Cities Summit to Drive Regional Digital Economy
At the 10Gb Future Cities Summit organized by SAMENA Telecommunications Council, Huawei emphasized the need for increased collaboration to bolster the digital economy across the Middle East by advancing 5G networks through comprehensive fiber optic infrastructure. With over 150 global ICT experts present, Huawei highlighted its commitment to leveraging its expertise in 5G development to support regional stakeholders in enhancing 10GbE fiber optic networks and setting the stage for smart cities.
Kim Jin, Huawei’s Vice President of Optical Business, underscored the importance of building gigabit broadband networks, citing regional initiatives like Saudi Arabia's “Fiber to the Home” and Bahrain’s “Post-Gigabit Society” vision. Huawei reported that these efforts aim to deliver 1-10 gigabit internet speeds across homes and businesses by 2026.
Jin emphasized that high-capacity fiber networks are essential for the coming decade’s data-driven demands, where smart applications and advanced AI models require rapid data processing and distributed data centers. The Middle East’s data bandwidth is projected to reach 255 Tbps by 2027, making robust digital infrastructure a vital driver for the region's smart technology advancements.
