HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum reviews DEWAs achievements in innovation and smart transformation at DIGAE 2016
HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has visited Dubai Electricity and Water Authority's (DEWA's) stand at the Dubai International Government Achievements Exhibition (DIGAE 2016) after His Highness opened the exhibit. His Highness was accompanied by HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, HH Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister for Culture and Knowledge Development, and HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chief Executive and Chairman of Emirates Airline and Group.
Al Tayer briefed His Highness about DEWA's essential achievements in smart transformation, which promote the Smart Dubai initiative, launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to make Dubai the happiest city on Earth. DEWA's efforts include its 3 smart initiatives: Shams Dubai to connect solar energy to houses and buildings, smart applications through smart meters and grids, and the Green Charger to build the infrastructure and electric vehicle charging stations.
His Highness likewise reviewed DEWA's clean energy efforts that promote the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 to provide 7 % of Dubai's total power output from clean energy by 2020, 25 % by 2030 and 75 % by 2050. Among DEWA's key projects is the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which will produce 1,000 MW by 2020 and 5,000 MW by 2030. When complete, it will decrease 6.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions yearly.
"We were honoured today by the visit of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to DEWA's stand. His Highness reviewed a number of DEWA's smart initiatives and services that support our efforts to achieve the vision of His Highness to offer the best innovative government services around the clock through easy and simple procedures at the highest levels of performance to satisfy clients' requirements and expectations, to ensure a high-quality life for citizens, residents, and visitors, and make society happier. His Highness also reviewed the latest developments to achieve the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy, which aims to transform Dubai into a global hub for clean energy and green economy. DEWAs projects adhere to the main themes of the exhibition, which are Happiness, Smart Transformation, and Achievement, said Al Tayer.
"We are pleased to be taking part in this year's Dubai International Government Achievements Exhibition, which is an essential step to accomplishing the vision of the Dubai Government Excellence Programme, which supports the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and the instructions of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, to merge government efforts. The exhibition has developed its position as a perfect platform to promote integration among government organisations, while they deal with their transformation into smart government systems. The exhibition has also become an umbrella for government organisations to provide their accomplishments, initiatives, projects, and services, and exchange expertise and best practices with local, federal, and international government organisations. It also creates an opportunity for international government organisations to learn about Dubai Governments experience. This has established a culture of excellence, and has become a role model for government excellence and creativity, added Al Tayer.
At DIGAE 2016, DEWA provided the Hassyan clean-coal power plant, which will be the first-of-its-kind in the area, has the latest and most advanced technologies worldwide and is fully-compliant with international standards. DEWA Innovation Centre includes a variety of research and development centres in clean energy innovations, drone research, 3D-printing, and water desalination using solar energy, with a total investment of AED 500 million.
DEWA is likewise showing the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award, which was released by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and is worth USD1 million. The award is presented by the UAE Water Aid Foundation, under the umbrella of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, to find sustainable options to the concern of water scarcity, using solar power to cleanse and desalinate water.
At DEWA's stand, the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy presents the Emirates Energy Award (EEA) 2016-2017, whose theme is Innovative Solutions for Clean Energy. EEA acknowledges the efforts of organisations and people in energy management and preservation. It motivates education and research study in energy by nurturing an environment of creativity, competitors, development, and quality as part of its advancement of innovative clean energy solutions.
DEWA's stand at DIGAE 2016 consists of the Mai Dubai water bottling company and plant, and Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence (Dubai Carbon), which focuses on establishing strategies and frameworks to minimize carbon emissions, RWE Middle East, the leading consultancy business in the energy sector, and Etihad ESCO are working to establish the energy efficiency contracting market in Dubai by developing energy efficiency projects for 30,000 buildings.
