FIA Launches Safe Mobility 4 All & 4 Life Programme to Improve Road Safety Across MENA

The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) has launched the Safe Mobility 4 All & 4 Life programme across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), introducing a regional initiative aimed at strengthening road safety through collaboration, training, and evidence-based solutions.

The programme was officially unveiled during an FIA Region I MENA Mobility Council seminar held in Cairo, bringing together 17 FIA Member Clubs from 15 countries. The event focused on the region's current road safety landscape, the United Nations Vision for Road Safety, and the Safe System Approach, while providing a platform for participants to exchange best practices and share successful local initiatives.

The Safe Mobility 4 All & 4 Life programme has been designed to equip FIA Member Clubs and government authorities with the knowledge, mentorship, and practical tools required to develop and implement effective road safety projects that can reduce traffic-related fatalities and improve mobility across the region.

Commenting on the launch, FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem said the initiative reflects the organisation's commitment to advancing road safety throughout the MENA region by supporting its members in delivering life-saving programmes.

He noted that the programme provides Member Clubs and government authorities with the necessary resources and technical support to develop safer road systems and create a lasting positive impact for communities across the region.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), road traffic accidents remain one of the leading causes of death globally, with low- and middle-income countries carrying a disproportionate share of the burden. Many countries across the Middle East and North Africa continue to face significant road safety challenges, highlighting the importance of coordinated regional action.

Developed as an FIA University initiative, the programme combines in-person training sessions with online learning, allowing participants to receive guidance from international road safety experts while designing projects tailored to local needs.

The initiative has been developed by the FIA in collaboration with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and with the support of the FIA Foundation. The partnership aims to strengthen institutional capacity and encourage Member Clubs to play a leading role in delivering sustainable road safety initiatives throughout the region.

The programme's regional launch comes ahead of the graduation ceremony for 17 FIA Members from the Asia-Pacific region (FIA Region II) at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, following their successful completion of the programme.

Essa Hamza Al Failakawi, FIA MENA President, said that Member Clubs across the region face unique road safety challenges, and collaboration will help them identify practical solutions while transforming local knowledge into meaningful action.

Meanwhile, Alex Mejía, Director of UNITAR's Division for People and Social Development, highlighted the importance of partnerships in improving road safety. He said organisations can achieve meaningful results by working together and providing participants with practical skills and insights that support safer roads across the Middle East and North Africa.

The Safe Mobility 4 All & 4 Life programme forms part of the FIA's broader commitment to supporting global road safety objectives by promoting education, international cooperation, and sustainable mobility solutions.
