Etihad Credit Insurance Highlights Sustainability Efforts at TXF Global 2024

Etihad Credit Insurance (ECI), the UAE’s federal export credit company, showcased its commitment to sustainability and climate action at the TXF Global 2024 conference, organized by Exile Group. The event featured a keynote address by Her Excellency Raja Al Mazrouei, CEO of ECI, who emphasized the company’s alignment with national and international climate goals and the empowerment of Emirati women in global trade and investment sectors.

Key Discussions and Initiatives

H.E. Al Mazrouei participated in two significant discussions: ‘A Modern Delian League: Reviewing the Net-Zero Export Credit Agencies Alliance (NZECA)’ and ‘Council of Athena: The Woman in Export & Infrastructure Finance (WEXIF).’ During the first session, she highlighted ECI’s membership in the NZECA and its alignment with the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 strategic initiative. “This membership has provided ECI with access to a global network of expertise and resources, enabling us to align our strategies with both national and international climate targets,” she stated.

Al Mazrouei further emphasized ECI’s involvement in initiatives such as the Africa Green Investment Initiative (AGII) and partnerships with entities like Masdar. These efforts support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to clean energy, infrastructure, and climate action. She noted that ECI’s contributions to global climate goals align with the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and the Paris Agreement.

Promoting Sustainability and Gender Equality

H.E. Al Mazrouei discussed the AGII’s impact on sustainability in Africa, highlighting its target of raising USD 4.5 billion for climate action from UAE-based companies, including Masdar and AMEA Power. ECI is committed to contributing USD 500 million by providing cutting-edge NZECA business solutions and facilitating cooperation among private financiers, institutional investors, and development banks.

In the second session, ‘Council of Athena: The Woman in Export & Infrastructure Finance (WEXIF),’ Al Mazrouei focused on the empowerment of Emirati women in economic sectors. She praised the UAE’s innovative approach to gender equality, aligned with the fifth sustainable development goal of the UN. “The UAE Gender Balance Council plays a crucial role in promoting legislation and projects that ensure women’s equal access to all sectors, including the We-Fi Initiative,” she noted.

Expert Participation and Collaboration

The sessions included contributions from industry leaders such as Magnus Montan, CEO of Swedish Export Credit Corporation (SEK); Peter Boeskov, Chief Commercial Officer of Denmark’s Export and Investment Fund (EIFO); and Carl Burlock, Executive Vice-President of Export Development Canada (EDC). The conference attracted renowned experts and representatives from major export credit companies and banks worldwide.
