Empower Signs Agreement with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries to Supply Advanced Chillers with a Capacity of 100,000 RT
Bin Shafar: Empower enhances its operations with advanced technologies to drive a carbon-neutral future.
Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation PJSC (Empower), the largest district cooling services provider globally, has signed a new agreement with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Thermal Systems, Ltd. (MHI Thermal Systems), part of the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Group. The agreement, signed on 8 October 2024 in Dubai, was officiated by H.E. Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, and Mr. Yoshihiro Ito, President of MHI Thermal Systems, with senior officials from both companies in attendance.
Under this deal, MHI Thermal Systems will provide Empower with 18 state-of-the-art, energy-efficient water-cooled centrifugal chillers. These chillers will deliver a total capacity of 56,250 Refrigeration Tons (RT) starting in 2025, serving key district cooling projects in Dubai, including the Deira Waterfront Development (DWD), Jumeirah Village, and Al Sufouh. The agreement also includes an option for Empower to increase the order by 31 December 2024, potentially expanding the total capacity to 100,000 RT.
This partnership marks the second collaboration between Empower and MHI Thermal Systems, following a 2021 agreement that supplied chillers with a capacity of 100,000 RT for Empower’s cooling plants in Za’abeel, DLRC, JBH, and Business Bay.
Empower CEO Ahmad Bin Shafar highlighted that this agreement is pivotal in advancing the district cooling industry and supporting Dubai's sustainability goals. "These energy-efficient solutions not only reduce the environmental footprint but also contribute to our goal of creating a more sustainable future," he stated. He emphasized that the adoption of cutting-edge technology in Empower’s 87 plants will enhance service quality across various sectors, including residential, commercial, and healthcare.
Mr. Yoshihiro Ito, President of MHI Thermal Systems, expressed pride in partnering with Empower to provide advanced, energy-efficient solutions that align with Dubai's long-term strategies, including reducing energy and water consumption by 30% by 2030.
Following the signing ceremony, Empower hosted the MHI Thermal Systems team for a tour of its Business Bay cooling plant, which holds the Guinness World Record for the highest-capacity district cooling plant.
