Emirates Health Services Becomes First in the World to Achieve ISO Certification for AI Management System

Emirates Health Services (EHS) has reached a groundbreaking milestone by earning the International Standards Organization’s (ISO) 42001:2023 certification for its Artificial Intelligence Management System from Lloyds Register Quality Assurance (LRQA). This prestigious achievement positions EHS and the UAE at the forefront of AI innovation globally, marking the UAE as the first country in the world to receive this certification from LRQA, a leading British classification entity.

This certification underscores EHS's commitment to implementing the highest global standards and practices in establishing, enhancing, and maintaining its Artificial Intelligence Management System. The recognition follows a thorough audit and evaluation by Lloyd's Register experts, confirming EHS's adherence to best practices and compliance with the stringent protocols of ISO 42001:2023.

Her Excellency Mubaraka Ibrahim, Acting Chief Information Officer at Emirates Health Services, highlighted that this certification aligns with the UAE’s strategic priorities in artificial intelligence, enhancing EHS's readiness for future advancements. She emphasized EHS's ongoing investment in AI technologies within the healthcare sector, ensuring the provision of top-tier healthcare services and boosting competitiveness at both regional and global levels.

Dr. Amina Al Jasmi, Director of the Radiology Department at EHS, explained that obtaining the ISO 42001:2023 certification through the AI project in diagnostic imaging ensures the responsible development and utilization of AI systems within EHS services. This global standard offers practical guidance in the rapidly evolving field of AI, setting requirements for implementing AI management systems within organizations. She noted the significant role these systems play in advancing healthcare, particularly in improving the accuracy of radiological imaging.

This achievement adds to a series of pioneering accomplishments by EHS, including being the first healthcare sector entity globally to receive institutional accreditation from the Joint Commission International and achieving a 3-star rating in organizational resilience and agility. These milestones reflect EHS’s ongoing efforts to lead in various organizational areas, continuously enhancing its qualitative edge.
