Egyptian Women Featured in Googles Special Doodle for International Womens Day

To mark this year's International Women's Day, Google teamed up with 25 Egyptian ladies for an unique 'Doodle' to assist them voice their hopes and dreams. This unique video which was shot in Cairo and 12 other famous cities all over the world includes Egyptian celebrity Donia Samir Ghanem who appears together with global symbols of successful women such as Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai and commemorated scientist Jane Goodall. They all share their hopes by completing the sentence: "One day I will ...".

Discussing her involvement in the unique doodle by Google, Donia Samir Ghanem said: "I am happy to participate in such a vital initiative such as Google's campaign for International Women's Day as it is an expression of the hopes and dreams ladies all over".

Donia, whose dream was to see every woman and girl a "star in her field," is the only Middle Eastern star included in the video.

Merna El Bari, a 22-year-old Egyptian college student also featured in the video stated: "The doodle idea in itself is fantastically imaginative and shares a positive outlook from the heart of the Middle East with the world. I was really pleased to be there".

"One day I will be the first female president of Egypt," Merna states in the video.

Google also produced an extension of the worldwide doodle video shot totally in Cairo that takes a much deeper look at the ladies featured in the video. The video features 25 Egyptian ladies who stand before the camera with the Pyramids of Giza behind them as they proclaim exactly what they want to be one day. Users will have the ability to see this video once they arrive on a landing page established for International Women's Day.

"Cairo, along with a number of other cities worldwide, were chosen to represent a varied set of women from various countries, all with different dreams, ethnicities, ages, languages, walks of life. We wished to feature as numerous women as possible, so we produced unique city edits to share the dreams of as numerous ladies as possible!" Zain Masri, Product Marketing Manager for the Middle East and North Africa, stated.

"Through our doodles we attempt to get closer to our users by highlighting vital occasions near their hearts. Over the past couple of years, we celebrated the achievements of more and more women in Doodles-- throughout, science, activism, journalism, sports, arts, technology and many other fields," Zain included.

Google has celebrated the long lasting impact of key Egyptian female figures through unique doodles throughout the years such as the ones developed for Umm Kulthum, Sohair El-Qalamawy, and Tahia Halim.
