Dubai Traffic Relief: RTA Opens New 2-Lane Bridge on Sheikh Rashid Road

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has officially opened the second bridge of the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project, offering much-needed relief to traffic along Sheikh Rashid Road. The new two-lane bridge spans 605 metres, connecting the intersection of Al Mina Street and Sheikh Rashid Road to the intersection of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street and Sheikh Rashid Road, with a designed capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour.

The opening marks another milestone in the ongoing Phase 4 of the project, which involves constructing four bridges with a total length of 3.1 kilometres, collectively accommodating up to 19,400 vehicles per hour.

Key Details of the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project

  • First Bridge: Opened in December 2024, spans 1,335 metres with three lanes, handling 4,800 vehicles per hour. It facilitates traffic flow from Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street and Sheikh Rashid Road towards Al Mina Street and the Falcon Intersection.
  • Upcoming Bridges:
    • A three-lane bridge (1,210 metres) from Al Mina Street to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street and Sheikh Rashid Road, slated for completion in Q2 2025, with a capacity of 4,800 vehicles per hour.
    • A three-lane bridge (780 metres) from Al Mina Street to Al Wasl Road, also expected by Q2 2025, accommodating 4,800 vehicles per hour.
    • A two-lane bridge (985 metres) from Jumeirah Street to Al Mina Street and the Falcon Intersection, scheduled for completion in Q3 2025, with a capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour.

Additional Developments

The project also includes:

  • 4.8 kilometres of roads and enhanced surface intersections on Jumeirah Street, Al Mina Street, and Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Street.
  • Two pedestrian bridges on Sheikh Rashid Road and Al Mina Street.
  • Upgrades to street lighting, traffic systems, rainwater drainage, and irrigation systems.

Transforming Dubai’s Infrastructure

Spanning 13 kilometres, the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project covers Sheikh Rashid Road, Al Mina Street, Al Khaleej Street, and Cairo Street, with a total of 15 intersections. It serves key areas including Deira, Bur Dubai, Dubai Islands, Deira Waterfront, Dubai Maritime City, and Port Rashid.

By 2030, the project aims to reduce travel time from 104 minutes to 16 minutes, benefiting an estimated 1 million residents. The initiative is projected to save Dh45 billion in travel time costs over the next 20 years, while significantly improving traffic safety and operational efficiency.
