Dubai Successfully Concludes 7th International Rain Enhancement Forum

The 7th International Rain Enhancement Forum (IREF) concluded its successful seventh edition at Conrad Abu Dhabi at Etihad Towers. Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Prime Deputy Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, the event brought together over 600 scientists, researchers, and specialists in weather modification and rain enhancement science.

Organized by the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) through the UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science (UAEREP), the forum featured insightful discussions across five key pillars: Collaboration, Innovation, Capacity Building, Artificial Intelligence, and Applied Research. Over 50 high-profile speakers from around the world participated, exploring topics such as AI in weather modification, advancements in autonomous aerial systems, and innovations in cloud seeding materials.

A major highlight of this year’s forum was the launch of UAEREP’s sixth cycle for research proposals, offering a grant of up to USD 1.5 million (AED 5.5 million) for each winning project. The grant will be distributed among up to three innovative research projects over three years. During the event, His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Fallen Heroes’ Affairs, honored distinguished local and international contributors to the program’s success over the past decade.

His Excellency Dr. Abdulla Al Mandous, Director General of NCM and President of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), emphasized the UAE’s commitment to water security and pioneering technologies for sustainable resource management. Alya Al Mazrouei, Director of UAEREP, highlighted the forum’s role in advancing scientific research and fostering global dialogue on climate resilience.

The final day of the forum featured in-depth discussions on cutting-edge research. Sessions covered topics such as limited-area climate interventions, solar geoengineering, and non-conventional approaches to rainfall enhancement. Experts from leading institutions presented findings on cloud seeding, artificial heat islands, and advanced weather modification techniques.

With its strong international participation and high-level discussions, the 7th IREF reaffirmed the UAE’s position as a global leader in rain enhancement science and water security innovation.
