Dubai Sends 68 Tonnes of Medical Supplies to Gaza, Supporting 9,500 People
Dubai has initiated three major airlifts to deliver essential medical supplies to Gaza, responding to the growing humanitarian crisis in the region. The first airlift, which departed earlier today, carries 67.9 metric tonnes of primary health kits aimed at supporting approximately 9,500 individuals over the next three months.
The supplies, sourced from the World Health Organization’s (WHO) stockpile at Dubai Humanitarian, are crucial for addressing the healthcare challenges in Gaza, where the medical infrastructure has been severely affected by ongoing conflict.
Giuseppe Saba, CEO of Dubai Humanitarian, emphasized the UAE's commitment to delivering critical aid. "We are intensifying efforts to collaborate with international humanitarian organizations and mobilize resources to provide life-saving assistance where it’s needed most," he said.
Robert Blanchard, head of WHO’s Hub for Global Health Emergencies Logistics, highlighted the growing demand for medical supplies worldwide, particularly in Gaza. "This UAE-donated flight, carrying 68 metric tonnes of medicines, will support 95,000 people for three months, addressing severe shortages of essential medicines and helping protect human health."
Since the Gaza crisis began 15 months ago, Dubai Humanitarian has facilitated the delivery of over 1,068 tonnes of aid through 23 airlifts and one sea shipment, working closely with partners like WHO, UNICEF, UNHCR, and the World Food Programme.
Under the directives of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, these efforts aim to alleviate suffering and provide much-needed medical care to the people of Gaza.
