Dubai Customs and DC World ink agreement of cooperation to enhance customs work regionally and internationally

Dubai Customs and Dubai Customs World (DC World) have inked an agreement of cooperation to boost ties between the two and devise a clear regulatory framework of cooperation.

The signing ceremony was attended by H.E. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman of DP World and Chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC). The agreement was signed by H.E. Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Director of Dubai Customs, and Faisal Issa Lutfi, Executive Director of DC World, in presence of executive directors and heads of departments.

Under the agreement, Dubai Customs will support the activities of DC World and help boost its organizational and administrative capacities to ensure it can successfully develop customs administrations on regional and global scales. Dubai Customs is to provide DC World with administrative, technological and technical services and make available the human resources needed to meet its goals.

H.E. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem hailed the agreement reached between Dubai Customs and DC World, saying that: Dubais name has today become a distinguished global trademark, commonly standing for Quality and Trust. Definitely, such a name will be further enhanced by taking Dubais experience in customs to many countries all over the world. Some of these nations are in need of advanced customs systems and processes such as the ones we have accumulated throughout our extensive experience in the field. There are real opportunities in a number of African and European countries, where Dubai has a lot to offer digging into Dubai Customs first-class experience that is largely acclaimed across many nations and international organizations, including the WCO.

Sultan bin Sulayem directed to export Dubais salient customs expertise abroad and tailor make customs systems that match the needs and specificities of each country. He pointed that there are discussions taking place with some countries seeking to avail of Dubais expertise in customs. Transferring customs practices to the world will reinforce the foothold of the UAE in general and Dubai in particular on the global landscape. I am confident Dubai Customs and DC World are more than capable of bearing this responsibility, Bin Sulayem said.

We are moving confidently towards new targets that were put forth by the UAE Vision 2021 and Dubai Plan 2021, in a bid to bolster the role assumed by PCFC, added Bin Sulayem.
On the other hand, H.E. Ahmed Mahboob, Director of Dubai Customs, noted: Dubai Customs practices in developing customs processes have attracted the attention of customs administrations from all over the globe, who seek to benefit from our expertise to step up their performance in handling and clearing commercial shipments and passengers in land, sea and air customs points. The agreement of cooperation with DC World ensures best customs technologies and innovations are made available for others, such as Mirsal 2 and the Risk Engine that were developed inhouse by Dubai Customs.
Faisal Issa Lutfi said: DC World pays its utmost attention to offering an added value to customs administrations that seek to utilize Dubais customs experience in expediting customs clearance formalities. We have received numerous requests from all over the world to develop customs administrations, some of these requests came from countries that have entrusted DP World to run and develop their ports and they wish to advance their customs services as well. DC World supports the development of global customs work by offering best innovations to customs administrations worldwide.
