Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirates dedicated authority for heritage, culture and the arts, is extending its support to the fourth annual Berlin-Dubai Festival, oragnised by Goethe-Institute Gulf Region.

Bringing together creative youth talent from the two cities, this years Berlin-Dubai Festival is dedicated to jewellery and examines the 75,000-year-history of jewellery design and manufacture.

As part of the festival, a special workshop was organised in Dubai from September 29 to October 1; a second workshop will be held in Berlin from October 20 to 22. The workshops have been created exclusively for the participating designers, four representing the United Arab Emirates and four from Berlin. The designers participating in the Festival are Emiratis Amal Haliq, Noura Alserkal, Muna Alhaddad, Fatima Al Qassimi and Germans Mirjam Hiller, Silke Spitzer, Rahel Fiebelkorn and Catalina Brenes.

The three-day workshop held in Dubai was led by Martina Dempf, a jewellery designer and social anthropologist from Berlin, and aimed to inspire the designers to trace the history of jewellery and discover unravelled facets.

Yasser AlGergawi, Acting Projects & Events Director of the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, said: The Berlin-Dubai Festival is aligned to our goal of promoting intercultural dialogue and focus to nurturing youth talent. The theme of this years workshops, held as part of the festival, is also deeply relevant to Dubai. We have a strong heritage in jewellery design, which we are highlighting through our partnership in the project. We are confident that the collaboration of youth talent from Dubai and Bahrain will further enrich our cultural scene.

Dubai Culture facilitated the workshops in addition to hosting the designers. The jewellery designers created highly aesthetic works, all of which will be displayed to the public at an arts exhibition to be held at A4 Space in the Alserkal Avenue Arts District Dubai on November 11 and 12.
