Dubai Culture Celebrates Al Jalila Theatre Day with ‘Be You’ Performance by Young Talent

Dubai Culture and Arts Authority marked ‘Al Jalila Theatre Day’ with the presentation of the play Be You, a production aimed at raising children's awareness about the effects of bullying. The play highlights the importance of maintaining positive behaviors and societal values, aligning with Dubai Culture's mission to foster a safe and creative environment for young minds across various cultural disciplines.

Be You, written by Alia Al Yamahi and directed by Alaa Hammad, follows the story of Mouza, a young girl dealing with bullying at school, which stifles her ability to make friends. In her search for support, she turns to a magician and a fairy, only to discover that her confidence and happiness must come from within.

The production was a collaboration between Dubai Culture and Sharjah’s Rubu' Qarn Centers for Theater and Performing Arts, featuring 11 young performers from the ‘Talents’ programme, an initiative by Al Jalila Cultural Centre for Children. This programme is designed to nurture children’s creative abilities in acting, body language, and character development, serving as an incubator for young talent in the performing arts.

Maitha Ali Shahdad, Acting Director of Al Jalila Cultural Centre for Children, emphasized the role of Dubai Culture in crafting innovative programmes that inspire and nurture children's artistic pursuits. She highlighted that the Talents programme provides a platform for children to explore their artistic potential in a space that combines creativity with learning.
