DEWA secures ISO certification for IT Service Management System

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has received ISO/IEC 20000-1:2011 certification, which is based on the third edition of the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) framework in IT service management system. The certificate is regarded as the highest global recognition for IT services in the world. It supports DEWAs efforts to enhance excellence in all its departments and divisions. The certification was awarded after a series of monitoring and evaluation processes as well as audits conducted by Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) and Lloyd's Register Group Limited.

The ISO certification underlines our efforts to achieve the goals of the Smart Dubai initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. It supports our vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility that adopts international best practices in all its operations including IT Service Management to ensure improving the services provided to our customers. This covers technical application management, service analysis, design and development, and actual launch of quality and excellent services to make customers happier and more satisfied, said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

Winning the ISO/IEC 20000-1:2011 underlines our commitment to implement the highest international standards in IT Service Management and our continuous efforts to adopt effective and advanced systems in all our departments and divisions to provide the best services to our customers, anytime, anywhere, said Moza Al Akraf, Acting CIO of DEWA.

At DEWA, we work to be a leading and excellent government organisation with our focus on strategic planning to enhance our services, and overcome technical obstacles and risks, to ensure reliable services. This achievement is a major development in DEWAs IT infrastructure, added Al Akraf.

DEWA has achieved notable IT results recently. IT won a number of prestigious recognitions including the ISO/IEC 27001 - information security management, and the Best m-Government Service Award in the environmental sector during the third Government Summit 2015. DEWA launched the first government service app for payment on Samsung smart watches in the GCC in 2014. It also won the Best Public-Private Partnership award at the Hamdan bin Mohammad Award for Smart Government for its Ashal initiative.
