DEWA marks 3rd World Energy Day with energy conservation programme

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has organised an awareness programme to promote the sensible use of electricity and water in the Emirate. The activities, held at Mirdif City Centre from 23-25 October 2014, mark the 3rd World Energy Day. They support DEWAs vision to become a sustainable world-class utility, and are part of its efforts to raise awareness on conserving natural resources, and encouraging the responsible use of electricity and water among government and private organisations, and other segments of society in Dubai.

DEWA also organised a specialised workshop on the efficient use of electricity and water in the workplace, and its impact in reducing organisations expenses, saving the environment, and supporting Dubais vision and its sustainable development. The workshop was primarily focused on government staff with participation from the private sector as well.

A range of activities and interactive competitions were organised for visitors to Mirdif City Centre, where they learned tips on best practices to reduce electricity and water consumption at home and in the office. DEWA also distributed green ribbons to thousands of visitors as part of the world Green Ribbon Initiative, to promote environmental responsibility among all segments of society and engage them in Dubais efforts to save natural resources.

Through these awareness programmes, we encourage everyone in Dubai to adopt a responsible approach to using natural resources. We always emphasise the importance of collaboration among all sectors and members of society to support the vision of Dubai and actively participate in reducing the carbon footprint and achieving the sustainable development of the Emirate, said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
We continuously organise awareness programmes and launch initiatives which create further awareness on energy consumption and the rational use of national resources, he added.

Coinciding with these programmes and activities, DEWA launched a marketing campaign in the local media to promote World Energy Day and encourage the public to interact with its conservation programmes and initiatives.

DEWA also organised the Sustainable Office workshop, to promote efficient use of energy and water, in collaboration with Emirates Wildlife Society - Worldwide Fund for Nature (EWS-WWF). The interactive workshop, which is the first-of-its-kind in the region, targeted DEWAs stakeholders, partners, energy developers and suppliers, as well as other utilities and developers of the residential and hospitality sectors in the region.
