DEWA to Implement Second Consecutive Carbon Neutral Emissions Initiative for Earth Hour 2017

Dubai Power and Water Authority (DEWA) has introduced that it will apply its Carbon Neutral Emissions initiative once more for this year's Earth Hour celebration, in cooperation with the Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence (Dubai Carbon), as part of its commitment to environmental management and carbon impact decrease for generations ahead, and to achieve its vision to come to be a lasting innovative world-class utility.

DEWA arranges Earth Hour celebrations, among world's largest ecological efforts to address pushing ecological problems threatening the world, on 25 March, 2017, from 8:30 -9:30 pm under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai. Planet Hr. Earth Hour increases community awareness concerning tackling the results of global warming and environment adjustment, along with protecting the atmosphere and natural resources by turning off unnecessary lights and all other electric devices for an hour.

DEWA's own Carbon Neutral Discharge campaign intends to reduce its carbon discharges throughout Earth Hour this year to 0%. The carbon emissions reduction could be achieved by trading its carbon emissions with carbon credit ratings authorized for DEWA's projects, based upon the Kyoto Protocol to the United Nations Framework Convention on Environment Adjustment (UNFCCC). Throughout Earth Hour 2016, DEWA's carbon exhausts were neutralised with carbon equilibriums approved for the first stage of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which has a capability of 13 megawatts (MW).

"According to the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and the goals of the Dubai Clean Energy Approach 2050 to make Dubai a global hub of clean energy, green economy, and sustainable growth, DEWA will execute, for the 2nd consecutive year, its Carbon Neutral Emissions adhering to in 2014's successful zero-carbon Earth Hr events," claimed HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Power and MD & Chief Executive Officer of DEWA.

"DEWA has constantly supported Dubai's efforts to raise public recognition on numerous ecological problems by adopting and introducing a number of appropriate efforts and jobs. Our goal is to increase awareness on the relevance of saving and maintaining our natural resources. Carbon reduction and influence reduction type part of our ecological technique, that includes the establishment of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world's biggest single-site solar park based upon the independent power manufacturer model. It is one of our leading tasks with an intended capacity of 5,000 MW by 2030," added Al Tayer.

Al Tayer also asked Dubai's residents and residents to join Planet Hour 2017 to promote the Emirate as a leading venue for efforts and events to strengthen social and ecological recognition, and support the country's and the world's sustainable growth.

DEWA commemorates Earth Hour yearly to sustain global efforts to reduce carbon and greenhouse gas emissions, which have caused global warming and environmental air pollution. These are in enhancement to developing lasting solutions to environment change. DEWA was granted the official Certified Emission Reductions(CERs) provided by the UNFCCC, together with Dubai Carbon, for its effective zero-carbon Planet Hour celebrations in 2016. It exchanged its carbon exhausts with approved carbon balances based on the Kyoto Protocol to the UNFCCC.
