DEWA continues Neighbourhood Campaign in different areas in Dubai
ubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is extending its Neighbourhood Campaign as part of its 44th UAE National Day celebrations and its continuous efforts to raise neighborhood awareness on the importance of Dubai's sustainable advancement. The step shows DEWA's full support for pride in national identity, emphasises the importance of saving electrical power and water, and promote social work and direct contact with all segments of society in suburbs. The project shows DEWA's commitment to motivating ecological awareness among all members of society and promoting the sustainable development of Dubai.
The project includes field check outs to several neighbourhoods and real estate complexes throughout the emirate by a specialist team from DEWA who are carried via a bus specifically developed for the project, which they provide Dubai Police. The group encourages the public on ways to rationalise usage and live a sustainable and environment-friendly lifestyle.
"To support our vision of becoming a sustainable ingenious world-class utility, DEWA launches awareness programmes and creative efforts to motivate all members of society to embrace favorable practices in their daily lives such as their responsible usage of electrical power and water. Over the past 6 years, DEWA has actually accomplished concrete results thanks to its conservation efforts. It managed to conserve 1,163 GWh of electricity and 5.4 billion imperial gallons of water, equivalent to AED 752 million, and over 536,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions," said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
"The Neighbourhood Campaign has been extremely successful in raising environmental awareness amongst the people of Dubai. Its geographical scope has been broadened to include all the emirate's residential areas and targets both grownups and kids. It is very important to instil a culture of accountable usage of resources among the various age groups, and motivate the adoption of the behaviour and practices that strengthen the foundations of ecological sustainability in Dubai," releaseded Al Tayer.
Coinciding with this year's UAE National Day, DEWA's conservation group visited household neighbourhoods in Oud Al Muteena and Muhaisnah to promote gifts of UAE flags and headscarfs and Noor and Hayat dolls spruced up in the UAE national dress to mark the special occasion. The group likewise brought along a busload of ice cream to add to the fun.
In 2014, the Neighbourhood Campaign group checked out 3 public parks and 1,641 homes in 27 neighbourhoods. These consisted of Al Hebab, Al Faqa, Al Margham, Hatta, Al Lusaily, Al Marmoom, Al Aweer, and other suburbs in Dubai and 3 parks. The campaign prospered in saving 714,000 kWh of electrical energy and 13 million imperial gallons of water, in addition to decreasing 329,000 kg of co2 emissions.
