Cleanco achieves new milestone in medical and hazardous waste management

Cleanco has announced a major expansion in its medical and hazardous waste treatment capacity, marking a significant step in supporting the UAE’s sustainability ambitions and long-term environmental goals.

As one of the country’s largest environmental services providers, the company has increased its daily treatment capacity to around 60 tonnes through continued investments in advanced technologies. Central to this achievement is its state-of-the-art Rotary Kiln Incineration (RKI) technology, operated at facilities in the Al Dhafra and Al Ain regions, designed to meet stringent European Union and UAE environmental standards.

The upgraded system enables a waste volume reduction of up to 90–95 per cent by safely converting waste into ash, which is then disposed of through secured Class I hazardous waste engineered cells. In parallel, the company is working with strategic partners to explore innovative fly ash recovery solutions in support of circular economy objectives.

Jamal Abdulla Lootah, Group CEO and President of MEFMA, said the expansion reflects the company’s commitment to protecting communities and the environment through responsible waste management and innovative, sustainable solutions.

The company’s achievements were recognised at the Middle East Waste and Recycling Awards, where it received the Medical Waste Management Best Practice Award in the Gold category. Industry projections estimate the UAE’s biomedical waste management market will reach USD 67 million in 2025, while the hazardous waste sector is expected to grow to USD 235.8 million by 2030, positioning the company strongly within a rapidly expanding sector.

Dr. Jayesh Panchal, General Manager of Cleanco Waste Treatment, said the company has also expanded into the industrial waste segment while continuing to invest in technologies that promote waste conversion and reuse.

In addition to treatment services, the organisation operates a fleet of around 25 specialised collection vehicles and currently supports approximately 3,000 healthcare facilities, commercial establishments, and industrial clients across the UAE. It has also led major environmental projects such as the Al Qusais Landfill Gas project, contributing to emissions reduction and sustainable infrastructure.

The latest developments reinforce the company’s role in setting industry benchmarks for safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible waste management in the UAE.
