Canon Unveils EOS C400 Cinema Camera with RF Mount and New Cine Servo Lens
Canon Middle East has announced the launch of the EOS C400, a groundbreaking cinema camera featuring an RF mount, alongside the innovative CN7x17 KAS T lens. This new addition to Canon’s lineup is designed to elevate large-scale productions, offering versatility and advanced technology for various filmmaking needs.
Key Features of the EOS C400:
Versatility and Design:
The EOS C400 is Canon’s first high-end RF mount cinema camera, marking a significant milestone in the EOS R System. The compact, box-shaped design prioritizes ease of use and operability without compromising on advanced features typically found in larger cameras. It supports live multi-camera productions with in-camera connectivity options like genlock, return input, and a 12-pin lens terminal.
Cutting-Edge Sensor Technology:
Equipped with a 6K full-frame backside-illuminated (BSI) stacked CMOS sensor, the EOS C400 offers 16 stops of dynamic range. This technology enhances light capture efficiency and enables faster readouts for superior image quality. The camera also introduces Canon's triple base ISO technology with base ISO levels of 800, 3,200, and 12,800, providing flexibility in challenging lighting conditions.
RF Mount and Compatibility:
The EOS C400 supports a wide array of RF prime, zoom, hybrid, cinema, and VR lenses. It also accommodates Canon’s EF-EOS R mount adapters and the new PL-RF mount adapter, enhancing metadata capabilities and connectivity for VFX and virtual production workflows.
Dual Pixel CMOS AF II:
Canon introduces its Dual Pixel CMOS AF II to the cinema EOS system, offering improved autofocus features with comprehensive 100% sensor coverage. This system includes face, eye, body, and animal detection and tracking, making it ideal for solo filmmakers in fast-paced environments.
Recording Formats:
The EOS C400 provides multiple internal recording formats, including 12-bit Cinema RAW Light LT/ST/HQ, 4:2:2 10-bit XF-AVC, and new MP4-based XF-AVC S and XF-HEVC S formats. These options cater to various professional filmmaking workflows with detailed metadata support.
Compact Design:
Building on the design of the EOS C500 Mark II, the EOS C400 offers a more compact form with extensive connectivity. Enhanced accessories like a versatile LCD bracket, advanced top handle, and improved hand grip support diverse shooting styles, whether handheld, on a gimbal, drone, or shoulder-mounted.
CN7x17 KAS T Cine Servo Lens:
The new CN7x17 KAS T lens, available in RF or PL mount, features a 7x optical zoom and 17-120mm focal length. It is designed for live sports, news, documentary, film, remote, and virtual productions. The lens includes advanced features like real-time lens distortion correction, frame-by-frame metadata, and compatibility with VFX workflows through an Unreal Engine plug-in.
EOS C300 Mark III Firmware Update:
Canon also announced a free firmware update for the EOS C300 Mark III, adding 12-bit Cinema RAW Light formats (LT, ST, HQ) and an Auto ISO feature for dynamic lighting conditions.
New Hybrid Lens and Speedlite:
Canon introduces the RF 35mm F1.4L VCM, a hybrid lens for both stills and video, along with the new Speedlite EL-10 for enhanced portrait lighting.
