Burjeel Surprises 10,000 Frontline Workers with Dh15 Million Recognition Fund
In an emotional and unexpected gesture, Burjeel Holdings announced a Dh15 million recognition fund for 10,000 of its frontline healthcare professionals during a company-wide town hall led by Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, Chairman and CEO of the Group. The event, held at Etihad Arena, brought together more than 8,500 clinicians, nurses, allied health professionals, and support teams from across the organisation, making it one of the largest CEO-led employee gatherings ever held in the UAE.
What began as a standard leadership address quickly transformed into a powerful moment of gratitude. Midway through Dr. Shamsheer’s speech, employees began receiving SMS notifications confirming their inclusion in the newly launched #BurjeelProud Recognition Initiative, sparking a wave of applause and emotion across the arena.
A Gesture of Gratitude to Frontline Heroes
The initiative’s first phase will benefit nearly 10,000 frontline employees, representing about 85% of Burjeel Holdings’ nursing, allied health, patient care, operations, and support workforce. The recognition fund, valued at Dh15 million, will grant recipients a financial bonus equivalent to half a month to one month of basic salary, depending on their role and category.
Addressing the crowd, Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil said:
“This is not a reward for a department. This is not tied to conditions. This is not because you asked. This is because you are the people on the ground.”
He further reflected on the organisation’s deep sense of responsibility to the nation, adding:
“This country allowed us to grow. And when a country gives you that opportunity, you carry a responsibility to give back through action.”
An Emotional Moment for Healthcare Staff
For many in attendance, the announcement came as a heartfelt surprise. Several staff members were visibly moved as they realised the significance of the recognition.
“It was a real surprise. It felt like a moment for all of us on the frontline,” shared one nurse following the event.
The initiative underscores Burjeel’s enduring commitment to its people—the healthcare professionals who form the backbone of the Group’s mission to deliver excellence in care and compassion across the UAE.
Looking Ahead: Burjeel’s Vision 2030
During the address, Dr. Shamsheer also outlined Burjeel’s Vision 2030 for Burjeel Medical City in Mohammed Bin Zayed City. The Group’s next phase of growth aims to transcend the traditional hospital model by integrating advanced clinical care, medical education, research, rehabilitation, and patient-centered innovation within a single ecosystem.
This expansion forms part of Burjeel’s long-term vision to strengthen its role as a healthcare leader in the region, continuing to invest in people, technology, and community well-being.
