An initiative by Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) saw world-renowned Indian chef Sanjeev Kapoor cook exclusively for 200 construction workers, office boys, drivers and cleaners as a special celebration to mark Islamic New Year.

The masterchef prepared an array of delicacies at his restaurant Signature in Nation Galleria before the banquet was distributed to less privileged workers in Abu Dhabi. Helping to distribute the food were members of the restaurant staff as well as TCA Abu Dhabis Corporate Social Responsibility team. Mouza Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director Marketing and Communication, TCA Abu Dhabi, said: We are actively engaged within the community throughout the year and lead a number of initiatives here at the Authority to make peoples lives better while they are working and living in the emirate.

It is important for us to recognise everyone who contributes to making Abu Dhabi such a vibrant and welcoming place and we are delighted to partner with such a talent as Sanjeev Kapoor to make the Islamic New Year even more special for some of the needy in our society.

Kapoor, who has a number of restaurants around the world, said: I feel humbled and happy to be involved with this occasion and would like to wish you all a very happy and prosperous new Islamic Year. As a token of gratitude to everyone who has supported us, on this auspicious day, I feel privileged to be able to share an offering to the less privileged, along with our prayers. Items on the menu prepared by Kapoor and his team included Signatures Murgh Parda Biryani - a mild spiced biryani made of saffron-infused basmati rice layered with crispy onions and overnight marinated chicken cooked in classical dum style.
Abdulla Al Awani, Manager, Asset Management, Nation Towers, which houses Nation Galleria mall, said: We wanted to show our appreciation to all of these people for their efforts and commitment through this gesture to mark the start of the Islamic New Year.
