Abu Dhabi opens new bridges linking Al Reem Island to E-12 highway
Authorities in the capital have inaugurated two new marine bridges connecting Al Reem Island directly to the Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Highway (E-12), significantly enhancing connectivity and traffic flow across key parts of the city.
Developed by the Department of Municipalities and Transport, the Dh450 million project is designed to accommodate up to 7,200 vehicles per hour, offering motorists a faster and more efficient route.
Reduced travel time and improved connectivity
The new bridges are expected to cut travel times by up to 15 minutes during peak hours, representing a reduction of around 60 per cent. The infrastructure strengthens links between Al Reem Island and Saadiyat Island, while also improving access to Dubai-bound highways.
Traffic congestion is set to ease on major routes, including Hamdan Bin Mohammed Street and Mina Road, benefiting daily commuters and enhancing overall urban mobility.
Boost for logistics and safety
A key feature of the project is a dedicated freight U-turn bridge linking Zayed Port to Saadiyat Island. This addition is expected to improve logistics efficiency and enhance road safety for commercial transport.
Supporting sustainable urban growth
According to Eng. Eisa Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Director General of Infrastructure Development at DMT, the project aligns with Abu Dhabi’s vision of delivering seamless mobility while maintaining high standards of design and sustainability.
The new bridges mark another step in strengthening the emirate’s transport infrastructure, supporting population growth, and ensuring smoother connectivity across strategic locations.
