Dubai Secures Bid to Host 2026 International Symposium on Electronic Art (ISEA)

In a significant milestone for the emirate's cultural and creative sector, Dubai has officially been selected to host the 2026 International Symposium on Electronic Art (ISEA). The announcement was made after this year’s event in Seoul, South Korea, solidifying Dubai’s reputation as a global hub for digital innovation and creative expression.

The successful bid, led by the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) in partnership with the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism and Zayed University, highlights Dubai’s commitment to nurturing talent and advancing digital art. ISEA, one of the most prestigious global events at the intersection of art, science, and technology, will take place in Dubai from April 10 to 17, 2026, under the theme ‘ELYAH: Constellating Place, Data and Identity’.

A Vision Rooted in Innovation

Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture, described the achievement as a reflection of Dubai’s bold cultural ambitions. “Hosting ISEA 2026 speaks to the depth and dynamism of our creative ecosystem and our continued drive to lead global conversations around the intersections of art, science, and technology,” she said.

She emphasised that the event aligns with the emirate’s digital arts strategy, which seeks to empower creatives, foster global dialogue, and expand the city’s impact on the world stage. The symposium underscores the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to position Dubai as a beacon for innovation and creativity.

International Gathering of Digital Pioneers

ISEA 2026 is expected to welcome 200 to 500 international participants including artists, academics, curators, technologists, and museum professionals. The week-long programme will include workshops, panels, exhibitions, and networking events at major cultural venues across the city.

Discussions will revolve around four key themes:

  • Charting Constellations – examining identity and geography in a digital world

  • Celestial Dialogues – fostering intercultural exchange through art and technology

  • Eco-Tech Futures – exploring how digital tools can address environmental challenges

  • Starlinked Worlds – investigating ethical and humanistic implications of emerging tech

Empowering the Next Generation

Zayed University will play a co-organising role in the symposium. Professor Michael Allen, Acting Vice President, noted: “We are proud to help shape a platform where global creatives can connect and inspire. This event will empower future leaders and spark innovation across disciplines.”

Echoing this sentiment, Her Excellency Hala Badri, Director General of Dubai Culture, added: “ISEA 2026 will reinforce Dubai’s status as a leader in the creative economy and a key player in shaping the future of digital arts. It presents new opportunities for our creative community while enhancing Dubai’s cultural tourism.”

The symposium’s theme draws inspiration from ‘ELYAH’, known as the North Star in Arab astronomy, symbolising guidance and discovery — reflecting the event’s goal of charting new frontiers in digital creativity.
