Over 10,000 Etihad Rail Tickets Sold Ahead of UAE's First National Passenger Train Service
More than 10,000 tickets were sold ahead of the launch of the UAE's first national passenger rail service, as Etihad Rail officially commenced operations on Tuesday with strong public demand for its inaugural journeys.
The first scheduled passenger service departed Fujairah at 5:34 am and arrived at Mohammed Bin Zayed City Station in Abu Dhabi ahead of schedule, marking a historic milestone in the country's transportation network.
As part of the introductory operational phase of its national passenger network, six passenger services are operating on the first day. Demand has remained high, with most seats on upcoming services over the next several days already sold out.
The launch introduces a new mode of inter-emirate travel, offering passengers guaranteed seating, onboard Wi-Fi, power outlets at every seat, generous luggage allowances, and Premium Class options designed to enhance comfort and convenience.
To provide a seamless travel experience, Etihad Rail is working closely with the Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility) to integrate rail services with Abu Dhabi's wider public transport system. The collaboration enables passengers to connect conveniently with buses, taxis, and other mobility services as part of an integrated transport ecosystem.
Azza Alsuwaidi, Chief Operating Officer of Etihad Rail, described the inaugural service as a defining moment in the country's transport journey.
"The first departure from Fujairah this morning is the moment a national vision becomes part of everyday life, giving people a new way to connect with one another, with opportunity and with the places that make our country so unique."
She added:
"Years from now, today's passengers will be able to say they were there at the very beginning."
The successful launch and strong advance ticket sales underscore growing public interest in passenger rail travel and represent a significant step towards creating a more connected, sustainable, and integrated transportation network across the UAE.
