Western Union and urpay Partner to Expand International Money Transfer Services in Saudi Arabia
Western Union and urpay have announced a strategic partnership to launch international money transfer services through the urpay digital wallet, enabling customers across Saudi Arabia to seamlessly send money worldwide. The initiative aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, aiming to enhance financial inclusion and modernize digital financial services.
Expanding Global Money Transfer Capabilities
urpay, launched in 2021, is Saudi Arabia’s leading digital wallet, serving over 6.5 million users. It offers 50+ integrated financial services, including payments, mobile top-ups, exclusive deals, and money transfers.
With this new collaboration, urpay customers can now send international remittances to bank accounts, mobile wallets, or for cash collection at Western Union agent locations in select countries. Both companies are also working on expanding Western Union’s global reach for urpay users in the coming weeks.
Giovanni Angelini, President, Europe, Middle East, and Africa at Western Union, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating:
“We are excited to collaborate with urpay—bringing access to Western Union’s global money transfer network to urpay wallet customers. Saudi Arabia is a global leader in economic diversification, digital adoption, and financial innovation, and we remain committed to supporting its consumers and communities. Our collaboration with urpay ensures that customers can send money abroad conveniently and securely.”
Enhancing Financial Inclusion in One of the World’s Largest Remittance Markets
Saudi Arabia is one of the largest outbound remittance markets globally. According to the World Bank, in 2023, consumers in the Kingdom sent over $38 billion in remittances. The collaboration between Western Union and urpay addresses this demand by providing a secure, efficient, and accessible digital solution for millions of expatriates supporting their families abroad.
Abdullah Al-Ibrahim, CEO of NeoLeap (urpay’s parent company), highlighted the importance of this partnership:
“We are pleased to collaborate with Western Union to enhance financial inclusion by offering secure and reliable international money transfer services through the urpay digital wallet. Our goal is to provide customers with multiple financial service options, ensuring seamless transactions worldwide.”
Strengthening Western Union’s Digital Presence in Saudi Arabia
Western Union has operated in Saudi Arabia since 2000, offering a broad range of international money transfer services through various partnerships. This latest collaboration with urpay reinforces Western Union’s commitment to digital innovation, expanding its regional footprint and enhancing the customer experience with digital-first financial solutions tailored to evolving consumer needs.
