UAE to Open 9 New Public Schools Ahead of Academic Year
As part of nationwide educational upgrades, nine new public schools are set to open across the UAE with the start of the new academic year on August 25. Alongside this, maintenance and development works have been completed at 465 schools to enhance readiness and improve facilities for students.
Sara Al Amiri, UAE Minister of Education, announced the expansion during a press conference, highlighting the government’s commitment to strengthening the country’s education system. “Nine new public schools will open, and maintenance work at 465 schools across the UAE has been carried out. This year, 25,345 new students will join the education system, supported by 830 newly recruited teachers and staff,” she said.
To ensure smooth operations, the Ministry of Education confirmed the deployment of 5,560 school buses, distribution of 46,888 laptops, and printing of over 10 million textbooks. In total, more than 1 million students will return to schools nationwide after the summer break.
Academic Policy Updates
The Ministry also announced the cancellation of centralised examinations, replacing them with school-prepared assessments beginning in the second semester. The new framework, approved by the Education, Human Development, and Community Development Council, aims to unify schedules across the country, ensuring balanced instructional time and longer breaks to support student well-being.
Revised Academic Calendar
Under the new system:
-
Students will have a four-week winter break in December.
-
A two-week spring break is scheduled in March.
-
Three mid-term breaks will take place in October, February, and May.
The changes are designed to enhance the educational experience while prioritising students’ mental health and overall development.
