UAE announces early spring break for schools and universities

Authorities in the United Arab Emirates have announced an early spring break for all schools and universities as a precautionary measure amid ongoing regional tensions.

The decision was jointly announced on Wednesday by the UAE Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

According to the announcement, the spring holiday will now run from Monday, March 9, to Sunday, March 22, covering students, teaching staff, and administrative personnel across government and private schools as well as higher education institutions.

Under the previously published 2025–2026 academic calendar, the last day of school for some institutions had been scheduled for March 13, with spring break expected to start on March 16 and continue until March 27. Classes were originally set to resume on March 30.

However, authorities decided to bring forward the holiday due to security concerns linked to the ongoing US–Israel–Iran conflict 2026 and related regional developments.

Distance learning extended

Earlier this week, the government also extended distance learning across the country until Friday, March 6, while monitoring the evolving regional situation.

Classes had initially shifted online from Monday, March 2, to Wednesday, March 4, following the escalation of hostilities and heightened security concerns in the region.

In Dubai, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) confirmed that it would implement the federal ministries’ directive, ensuring consistency across schools and universities in the emirate.

Safety remains top priority

Officials said the measures are precautionary and aimed at prioritising the safety and wellbeing of students, educators, and administrative staff.

The shift to remote learning and the early start of the spring holiday comes after recent missile and drone attacks linked to escalating tensions involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, which have raised security concerns across the region.

Authorities urged students, parents, and education staff to stay updated through official government channels for the latest announcements and guidance.

Indian curriculum schools in the UAE are also awaiting further clarification from their respective educational authorities regarding the revised schedule.
