Strengthening UAE–Japan Food Trade Relations at Dubai Waterfront Market

Waterfront Market, Dubai’s largest fresh food market, hosted an official visit by H.E. Jun Imanishi, Consul General of Japan in Dubai, along with Mr. Kenta Shiraki, Consul at the Consulate General of Japan, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance UAE–Japan trade relations in the food sector.

The delegation was welcomed by Mr. Mohammad Al-Madani, Associate Director and Senior Centre Manager at Waterfront Market, alongside the management team, who provided insights into the market’s operations and strategic role in the region.

During the visit, the delegation was given a comprehensive tour of the facility, covering key sections including seafood, meat, and fresh produce. The tour highlighted how products are sourced, handled, and distributed efficiently at scale, showcasing the market’s advanced operational capabilities.

Discussions between both parties focused on supply chain dynamics, import and export opportunities, and the importance of strengthening bilateral trade collaboration. The visit underscored Waterfront Market’s ability to serve as a critical link between local demand and international suppliers, particularly in facilitating cross-border food trade.

As Dubai continues to position itself as a global hub for food trade, Waterfront Market plays a vital role in supporting economic growth, enhancing food security, and enabling international partnerships. The visit also reflects the growing importance of Japan–UAE relations, particularly in sectors that contribute to sustainable trade and supply chain resilience.
