SLC Secretary General Marks World Humanitarian Day with Tribute to Global Aid Workers

His Excellency Ahmad Saeed bin Meshar Al Muhairi, Secretary General of the Supreme Legislation Committee in the Emirate of Dubai (SLC), has issued a statement on the occasion of World Humanitarian Day, observed annually on 19 August, paying tribute to humanitarian workers worldwide and reaffirming the UAE’s enduring commitment to global humanitarian efforts.

In his statement, H.E. bin Meshar emphasized that the day serves as an opportunity to recognize the courage, resilience, and dedication of humanitarian personnel working in conflict zones, disaster-hit areas, and communities affected by crises. He noted that their selfless contributions embody the highest values of service and solidarity.

“World Humanitarian Day, commemorated annually on 19 August, serves as an occasion to honour the unwavering dedication of humanitarian workers and to reaffirm the shared responsibility of the international community to alleviate the suffering of those affected by crises and to build more just and stable societies,”

UAE’s Humanitarian Leadership

H.E. bin Meshar underscored the UAE’s prominent role in global humanitarian work, a legacy deeply rooted in the values of compassion and generosity championed by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. He highlighted that the UAE continues to strengthen its humanitarian ecosystem by advancing progressive legislative frameworks that:

  • Enhance aid delivery and ensure transparency.

  • Promote efficiency in humanitarian initiatives.

  • Foster collaboration between government, private, and non-profit sectors.

Appreciation for Humanitarian Teams

The SLC Secretary General also extended appreciation to humanitarian organizations and workers across the globe, with particular recognition for national humanitarian teams whose efforts reinforce the UAE’s global standing in the fields of humanitarian action and sustainable development.

“On this occasion, the Supreme Legislation Committee in the Emirate of Dubai extends its sincere appreciation to all humanitarian organisations and workers worldwide, particularly the national humanitarian teams, whose contributions continue to enhance the standing of the Emirate of Dubai and the UAE in the fields of humanitarian work and sustainable development.”

World Humanitarian Day was established by the United Nations to honor aid workers who risk their lives in humanitarian service and to rally global support for people affected by crises.
