MoHESR presents best practices in higher education governance to GCC delegation
The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MoHESR) welcomed a delegation from the ministries of higher education and scientific research of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states as part of ongoing regional efforts to strengthen cooperation and share best practices in higher education governance.
The visit followed the outcomes of the 24th Meeting of the Ministers of Higher Education and Scientific Research, held in Doha, and supports the agreement to organise regular exchanges among GCC countries to enhance the development of higher education systems and improve international rankings.
The visiting delegation included representatives from academic accreditation bodies, higher education institutions, and planning and development authorities. During the meetings, MoHESR presented key national initiatives, including the continued development of the National Qualifications Recognition System, which aims to streamline procedures, improve data quality, and enable digital integration with higher education institutions.
The ministry also highlighted its efforts to combat academic fraud through the use of advanced digital monitoring tools and proactive oversight, reinforcing the protection of students and the credibility of educational outcomes.
Discussions addressed progress in global university rankings and the implementation of an outcome-based evaluation framework designed to better align higher education outputs with labour market needs, with a focus on research capacity and skills development.
As part of the programme, the delegation visited Khalifa University and Mohamed bin Zayed University for Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), gaining direct insight into the UAE’s approach to innovative education, artificial intelligence, and advanced scientific research.
The visit reflects the GCC’s collective commitment to strengthening regional collaboration, improving education governance, and preparing future generations to contribute to sustainable national development.
