Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation to launch book on public art in UAE and region at Frankfurt Book Fair

Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation (MBRF), in cooperation with Al Bayan newspaper, will launch a book in Arabic and English on the public art scene in the UAE and the region, during the Frankfurt Book Fair 2015 which will take place from 14 to 18 October. The Frankfurt Book Fair is the largest event of its kind in the world, and MBRF has been participating in this historic exhibition for several consecutive years.

The book titled The Great Outdoor Gallery documents the development of public art in the UAE with an analytical view of relevant art events in other places in the Arab region, especially Kuwait, Manama, Jeddah and Doha. It also features research material supported by images, infographics, maps and archive material.

On the occasion, His Excellency Jamal bin Huwaireb, Managing Director of MBRF, said the launch of the new book highlights the Foundations consistent efforts to support future generations through initiatives in the fields of culture, entrepreneurship and education.

The book, The Great Outdoor Gallery, draws attention to the amazing evolution of the art scene in the UAE and the extraordinary achievements in this area in recent years, demonstrating the public cultural outlook of the country, H.E. Bin Huwaireb said.

The book is aimed at providing a comprehensive historical view of the development of public art reflecting the aspects of daily life in the countries in the region. With its complementary information on artistic works and art institutions in the region, The Great Outdoor Gallery will serve as an important reference book for anyone interested in art, H.E. Bin Huwaireb added.

H.E. Dhaen Shaheen, Director General of the Publishing Sector at Dubai Media Incorporated (DMI), said the UAE leadership has always supported public art and encouraged cultural institutions in the country. Media groups in Dubai have been inspired by the promotion of art in the UAE in recent years and DMI is keen to implement the vision of our leadership in this area. The launch of the new book is part of an integrated effort to provide an overview of the evolution of art in the region, H.E. Shaheen said.

The book contains three main chapters, with the first chapter dealing with public art in the Arab Gulf countries while the second describes the development of public art in the UAE and highlights select art works from the UAE. The third chapter dwells on collectors and art dealers. It also contains a guide to artists, art galleries and art institutions.

The cooperation between MBRF and DMI is part of an integrated series of agreements with cultural and educational institutions inside and outside the UAE that highlights MBRF as a leader in the dissemination of knowledge. MBRF has a cooperative initiative with Al Bayan in place through a specialised page in the newspaper sponsored by MBRF featuring articles by international writers in fields such as economy, education, technology, medicine and health.
