Ministry of Health & Prevention Participates in 9th Global Conference on Health Promotion in China
UAE, December 5, 2016 - The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention recently joined the 9th Global Conference on Health Promotion, Shanghai 2016 in China which was held under the theme 'Promoting Health in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Health for All and All for Health.' Dr. Hussein Abdel-Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Undersecretary of the Health Centers and Clinics Sectors, and Dr. Fadila Mohammed Sharif, Director of the Health Education and Promotion Department, stood for the Ministry.
Dr. Al Rand stated that the Ministry took part in the panel discussion on 'Ending Childhood Obesity: Exactly how can proceed on SDGs 2 and 3 be accelerated by strengthening great governance for health through action across federal government sectors?' During the session, he specified that the removal of childhood obesity is a top priority for the UAE Federal government, being an essential part of UAE Vision 2021. Dr. Al Rand also mentioned that the Ministry intends to minimize the rate of obesity amongst children in the 5 to 17 age by 12 per cent by 2021, highlighting all the efforts and programs undertaken to realize the objective.
Dr. Sharif pointed out the Ministry's numerous campaigns to combat obesity in children, consisting of '2021 Healthy Children' and 'Lets Walk' to increase recognition on healthy and balanced way of livings in addition to the 'School Canteens Guideline' to advertise healthy consuming in school. She also discussed the Ministry's engagement in the going along with seminar at the 9th Global Seminar on Health Promotion, Shanghai 2016 with 3 understanding posters.
The 9th Global Conference on Health Promotion, Shanghai 2016 introduced the Shanghai Declaration on Health Promotion which dedicates to make bold political options for health, stressing the web links in between health and wellness and the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Advancement and its Sustainable Growth goals. This will motivate national governments and decision makers to promote healthy and balanced way of life choices and tasks throughout all sections of society in the following 15 years.
