MD & CEO of DEWA welcomes Minister of Climate Change and Environment
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO DEWA, welcomed HE Dr Thani Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, at DEWA's head office.
During the meeting, Al Tayer highlighted a few of DEWA's key efforts to attain the UAE Vision 2021, making the UAE among the very best nations in the world by 2021, and the Dubai Plan 2021 to change Dubai into a smart, incorporated, and connected city that uses its resources sustainably, and whose environmental elements are clean, healthy, and sustainable.
Al Tayer also highlighted the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, introduced by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, to change Dubai into a global center for clean energy and green economy, producing 75 % of its energy from clean sources by 2050, making Dubai the city with the most affordable carbon footprint worldwide.
"DEWA intends to raise awareness amongst the community and promote the logical intake of resources as part of life, in addition to highlighting the importance of protecting the environment making a positive change, and supporting national efforts to boost sustainable development in Dubai. This supports with the long-term Green Economy for Sustainable Development initiative, launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to attain sustainable development in Dubai, and enhance its position as an international hub for trade, financing, tourism, and green economy, coming with a sustainable future for the Emirate, in line with our vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility," said Al Tayer.
"DEWA contributes to the Emirate's sustainability by executing massive energy tasks, developing renewable and clean energy sources, boosting the performance and effectiveness of energy and water networks, launching awareness efforts and programmes to promote public awareness on the importance of the reasonable use of natural resources, and instilling a culture of rationalisation in society. This in turn, supports Dubai's strategy to minimize the carbon footprint of the Emirate and the UAE, contributing to mitigating the effects of global warming," included Al Tayer.
Al Zeyoudi commended DEWA's efforts to support development and growth, and establish a new phase of environmental sustainability through innovative initiatives and projects in the UAE.
