Maritime Advisory Council of Dubai successfully holds second board meeting

The Maritime Advisory Council of Dubai successfully concluded its second meeting, which was sponsored by the Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA). The meeting, which was held recently presented an agenda that focused on current maritime-based efforts and initiatives aimed at building a more competitive and sustainable maritime sector, which in turn would reinforce the emirates position as a leading global maritime hub.

During the meeting, three new members were introduced into the council, which included Sharaf Shipping Agency; Standard Chartered Bank and Seatrade Maritime Consultancy. The meeting also saw the review of the latest developments in both the global and local maritime industry, particularly across the fields of Ship Finance, Legal, Internal Business Infrastructure and Business Development.

In addition, the second meeting of the council also tackled timely maritime issues like the importance of ship financing in enhancing the competitiveness of the local maritime sector; attracting more global investors to Dubai; the significance of maritime courts and the need to introduce more maritime-based legislation and standards.

Participants also discussed the need for Dubai to continue in establishing a culture of continuous improvement in order to remain globally competitive. The group also talked about how to attract more global ship owners and maritime pioneers to set up operations in Dubai, reinforcing its aim to become one of the worlds leading maritime centres.

Through its show of support, the DMCA expressed its renewed commitment towards Maritime Advisory Councilextending all forms of assistance through all possible means. The council provides an ideal platform to discuss critical issues and to create an integrated framework designed to improve the competitiveness of the local maritime sector; employ growth prospects and avail special advantages optimally to consolidate the leading position of Dubai as a major player on the global maritime map.

The Maritime Advisory Council is composed of senior executives from prominent marine companies and those operating in the sector. Members include DP World; Drydocks World; Emirates Classification Society (TASNEEF); Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Courts; Clarksons; Tufton Oceanic; Gulf Energy Maritime (GEM); United Arab Shipping Company (UASC); Maersk Line; Emarat Maritime; Fichte and Co.; Ince and Co; Global Marketing Systems (GMS); and Dubai Trading Agency (DTA).

Membership also includes senior partners and members from Clyde & Co.; Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC); Topaz Energy and Marine Engineering; Al Tamimi & Company; National Association of Freight and Logistics (NAFAL); UAE National Ship Suppliers Association (UNSSA); Hadef & Partners; Mubarak Marine; Baker & McKenzie Habib Al Mulla; Holman Fenwick Willan (HFW); Wilhelmsen Ships Service; DHL Express; Rais Hassan Saadi & Co.
