Knowledge Lounge: Shaping the Literary Landscape of the Arab World

The Knowledge Lounge, a pivotal initiative of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF), recently hosted a distinguished gathering of Arab literary figures at the Kalemat Library in Dubai. Esteemed authors such as Egyptian novelists Tarek Imam and Rasha Adly, along with Lebanese writer Mounir El Hayek, convened to discuss their latest works and the evolving themes within Arab literature and storytelling.

His Excellency Jamal bin Huwaireb, CEO of MBRF, emphasized the initiative's role in enriching the intellectual and literary movement within the UAE and beyond. "We are committed to hosting prominent figures in literature, science, and the arts, fostering the Arab intellectual landscape through various initiatives designed for diverse age groups. These efforts significantly enhance participation in intellectual activities," he remarked.

The Knowledge Lounge initiative, aligned with the UAE's vision to cultivate a knowledge-rich society, underscores the importance of reading and intellectual engagement. The event featured a vibrant literary dialogue with Tarek Imam, who shared insights from his latest collection, "Stories Shorter than the Ages of Their Heroes," highlighting the emerging genre of flash fiction.

Moderated by Dr. Mounir El Hayek, the discussion included active audience participation, enriching the discourse with their inquiries and perspectives. Imam's storytelling captivated the attendees, garnering positive feedback.

In collaboration with the Dubai Narrator Forum, the Knowledge Lounge also hosted interactive sessions featuring Rasha Adly and Dr. El Hayek. Adly discussed the significance of historical novels in documenting history, emphasizing the rich cultural heritage of the Arab world. The sessions underscored the role of art in modern life and its integration into literary narratives.

Dr. El Hayek's panel, led by Shaza Shalak, delved into his book "Barren Diaries," exploring its artistic elements and social themes. The engaging session included a Q&A segment, allowing the audience to interact directly with the author.

The Knowledge Lounge continues to host sessions across various forums, both locally and internationally. These sessions cover a wide range of literary works, including Vanessa Diffenbaugh's "The Language of Flowers," Viktor Frankl's "Man's Search for Meaning," and Umberto Eco's "The Name of the Rose," among others. Each session aims to foster a culture of reading and intellectual engagement, making knowledge an integral part of society.
