Huawei and IEEE UAE Section Unveil Wi-Fi 7 Innovation Program to Transform Wireless Connectivity

Huawei and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) UAE Section have launched the groundbreaking ‘Imagine Wi-Fi 7 to Reality’ program, a strategic initiative aimed at shaping the future of wireless technology. Running from January 20 to April 20, 2025, the program is designed to advance Wi-Fi 7 adoption, develop talent in connectivity, and accelerate industry transformation in the Middle East and Central Asia (ME&CA).

The program coincides with a pivotal period in wireless evolution, as Wi-Fi 7 promises significant advancements in speed, reliability, and user experience. Boasting data transmission rates nearly three times faster than its predecessor, Wi-Fi 7 is set to revolutionize areas such as 8K video streaming, virtual reality, and enterprise applications.

The initiative was inaugurated at a ceremony in Dubai, attended by Huawei executives, industry leaders, and representatives from the University of Dubai and IEEE UAE Section. Dr. Eesa Bastaki, President of the University of Dubai and IEEE Honorary Chair, lauded the program's achievements. “The Wi-Fi 7 standard has sparked meaningful discussions and ideas within the industry. We look forward to even greater innovation in this new season,” said Dr. Bastaki.

Abdulaziz AlNuaimi, Chief Security Officer of Huawei UAE, highlighted the partnership's role in fostering ICT talent and innovation. “Our collaboration with IEEE and the University of Dubai continues to strengthen the UAE's position as a global technology hub, while nurturing a robust ecosystem for the next generation of talent,” AlNuaimi stated.

Wi-Fi 7's Industry Impact

Ryan Pan, IP Product & Solutions Manager at Huawei ME&CA, reviewed the program’s achievements in 2024 and outlined Huawei’s wireless strategy for 2025. “With vast expertise in Wi-Fi technologies, Huawei has been instrumental in shaping Wi-Fi 7 industry standards,” said Pan. Huawei’s deployments of over 30,000 Wi-Fi 7 access points in ME&CA underscore the technology’s rapid adoption.

The University of Dubai has been an early adopter of Wi-Fi 7. Mohammad Haneef, Chief Information Officer, shared insights into the deployment, citing improvements in speed, security, and operational efficiency in higher education environments.

Dual Contests to Inspire Innovation

The program features two contests targeting distinct technology segments:

  1. Wi-Fi 7 Pioneers Track: Designed for industry practitioners, this track encourages participants to share deployment experiences through live presentations and video submissions, offering up to 1,500 IP Club points.
  2. Innovation Pioneer Track: Open to technology enthusiasts and researchers, this track explores advanced applications like Wi-Fi Shield and Dynamic Zoom Smart antenna technologies.

Elite participants will earn recognition, including a Huawei HQ IP Club Explorer Tour, a Pioneer Trophy, and access to the Huawei Tech Carnival 2025 in Uzbekistan.

Huawei’s Leadership in Wi-Fi 7

As the first vendor to launch an enterprise Wi-Fi 7 solution, Huawei leads in wireless innovation. The company has achieved the top rank in contributions to WLAN and Wi-Fi 7 standards and was honored with the "Best Enterprise Wi-Fi Network 2024" award at the Wireless Broadband Alliance Industry Awards.

The ‘Imagine Wi-Fi 7 to Reality’ program underscores Huawei’s commitment to advancing wireless connectivity and shaping the future of the digital ecosystem.
